TerraCopia SPECIFIC QUESTIONS

Page history last edited by pinkhamc@... 8 years, 2 months ago

Although TerraCopia is no more, and for a few years after we moved back to Northfield, I ran Mill Hill Gardens, a small business selling WoW's through mail order and to local retailers and it, too, is no more, we did operate under a number of principles that might be of historic interest.  They are introduced below as questions.  We hope that our successors follow the same principles.

WHAT KIND OF QUALITY CONTROL IS USED?

From manufacturing to sales, the Wallo'Water is tested and handled in such a way as to make the likelihood of your receiving a defective Wallo'Water  as small as possible.  Although the methods used will not catch every defective WoW, it catches most of them and thus represents a good compromise between perfect quality control and our desire to keep the price of the WoW as low as possible.

ARE THERE ANY DEFECTS THAT WILL BE REPLACED?

Yes, there are three that occasionally get by the various quality control measures:

1) Pinhole leak.  The Wallo'Water is made of 8 mil plastic.  Since this is thick for sheet plastic, it is very unusual for it to come from the supplier with a pinhole in it.  However, it has happened very rarely.  Also utmost care is used to ensure the WoW will not get a pinhole during manufacturing and shipping.  However, this, too, has happened very rarely.  Thus if your Wallo'Water should develop a leak when first set up, see the procedure below to obtain a replacement.  If your WoW should develop a leak after your initial set up, see "Repair Kit" under Proper Care.

2) Defective end seam.   The end seam requires more heat that the other seams.  Rarely, not enough heat is applied and although the seam looks good, the ends separate at a later time.  In addition, on very rare occasions, the process of separating successive WoWs results in the cut removing part of the end seam so that the Wallo'Water is not held together properly.  If your WoW should ever develop a defective end seam, see the procedure below to obtain a replacement.

3) Separated seams.  If the heat applied is insufficient to melt the two walls of the plastic together at the seam, it is possible for the seam to look good, but to separate some time after water is added to the pocket.  When this happens, the bottom of the two adjacent pockets will billow out (it can only happen at the bottom of the pocket) and your WoW will become unstable.  If this should happen, even if it is long after you set it up, see the procedure below to obtain a replacement.

How to Obtain a Replacement Wallo'Water

If you obtained the WoW through Mill Hill Gardens, return the defective WoW by UPS or t4th class mail.  Mill Hill Gardens will cover your shipping cost wit one or more extra replacement WoWs.  If you obtained you WoW trough a retailer served by Mill Hill Gardens, return the defective WoW to the retailer for a replacement.  In either event, using an indelible marking pen, circle the problem area on the defective Wallo'Water and write next to it either "pinhole leak," defective end seam," or separated seam," as appropriate.  Be sure to include your name and address.

CAN AN OLD Wallo'Water BE RECYCLED?

TerraCopia and Mill Hill Gardens are environmentally sensitive businesses.  The final design of the Wallo'Water was determined in part, because manufacturing produces a low level of waste plastic.  We at Mill Hill Gardens realize some people are opposed to using plastic products.  However, no other material would work for the WoW in all the ways polyethylene does.  TerraCopia selected polyethylene, in part, because it can be readily recycled at most of the recycling centers being created around the country.
