ASA Resources Worth Considering

Page history last edited by pinkhamc@... 2 years, 10 months ago

Here are some resources you might want to know about so you will have a sense of the focus of ASA:

The American Academy for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is the oldest and one of the largest scientific societies in the world. Their annual meeting is renown for its breadth of coverage. Best of all, the AAAS has a very important program called Dialog on Science, Ethics, and Religion (DoSER), headed by ASA Fellow Jennifer Wiseman, which is very relevant to all of us in the ASA.

This year's AAAS meeting in Chicago on Feb. 13-17, provides a special invitation for all ASA members to attend the DoSER events. They are:

Friday, 14 February, 7:00–8:30 p.m. The DoSER Reception in the State Room (Fairmont Chicago)

Sunday, 16 February, 8:30–11:30 a.m. The Religious Communities, Science, Scientists, and Perceptions Symposium. Elaine Howard Ecklund of Rice University will present preliminary findings from the Science and Religious Communities survey–a major survey conducted in collaboration with AAAS. Panelists are: Kaye Husbands Fealing; James McCarthy; Galen Carey; and Eugenie C. Scott.  Regency B (Hyatt Regency Chicago)

• Monday, 17 February, 9:45–11:15 a.m.  The Science, Religion, and Modern Physics Symposium.  Matthew Stanley, Edward B. Davis, Steve Gimbel, and Ronald Numbers will discuss the religious lives and beliefs of leading physicists. Columbus AB (Hyatt Regency Chicago)

Here is the link to other resources worth considering on the ASA website.
