9-10 July (return home)

This was a hectic day when we said our final goodbye's to the school children and had dinner with the teachers and gave them special gifts we brought with us.

Afterwards we went home and finished packing.  Around 11 we left for the airport even though our flight didn't leave until 4 in the morning.  Again, it was necessary to be off Kenyan streets between midnight and 4 pm.

Our flight to Istanbul was during daylight this time so we saw the Sahara Desert, the Nile river valley, the pyramids, the Nile Delta, and the Mediterranean Sea.  At Istanbul our flight landed as we were told our connecting flight was doing its final boarding.  We had to get off the plane (we were in the seats in the far back), board the shuttle, go through the transfer security check and race all the way to the other end of the terminal to catch our flight.  We just barely made it.

By the time we reached the U.S. some 40 hours after our last good sleep, we were pretty well exhausted.  We were picked up by the same couple that took us to the airport and made it to Anne's house in time to pick up our cars and go to a nearby hotel to spend the night before returning home the next day (the 11th).  It was soooo good to take a hot shower!  How blessed we are and how little we acknowledge that blessing.

The Sahara Desert.  Sand everywhere you look.
The fertile Nile River flood plain
The Pyramids.  They are really large structures.  We spotted them without the use of the zoom on our cameras.
The Nile Delta to the left, the Mediterranean Sea to the right
